Foot Reflexology - 18 Hours

November 9 & 10 : 8:00 - 6:00 (Saturday and Sunday)

Instructor: Marsha Mathes

Reflexology is the study of reflex points on the feet and hands that correlate to each organ, gland and all parts of the body. When stimulation or pressure is applied to these specific reflex points, it allows the body to return to balance or homeostasis. Thus, it balances the Chi or life force similar to acupuncture. Come learn this ancient healing art of reflexology.

The proven benefits of reflexology include:
• Overall relaxation response
• Pain reduction
• Improvement of symptoms of health concerns
• Increased blood circulation
• Relax muscles
• Enhancement of medical care
• Complement to cancer care and stroke rehabilitation
• Adjunct to mental health care
• Post-operative recovery and pain reduction
• Easier delivery and post-partum recovery

And much more…

Reflexology can be a “stand-alone” modality, it can be incorporated into a massage or it can be an “add-on” to a massage.

The instructor, Marsha Mathes, attended Kaleidoscope School of Therapeutic Massage in St. Louis, MO, and graduated in January 1998.  Currently she is an LMT in the state of Alabama & Tennessee.  She taught as a massage therapy instructor at Virginia College, Huntsville, AL & her AL Massage Instructor’s license is I-115#. Her NCBTMB Approved Provider is #326 since 2013.

For 30+ years, reflexology has been a passion of Marsha’s since her original one-on-one training from her mentor, Rose Howard who currently lives in Belleville, IL.  Rose was trained in Canada and worked in a chiropractor’s office offering reflexology as an adjunct to the chiropractic treatments. Marsha’s second training was in 1994 from the Progressive Reflexology Institute in Kansas City, MO.  While attending her basic massage school in 1997, Reflexology was taught as a secondary modality. Then in Huntsville, AL with the International Institute of Reflexology in 2005.

Kinesio® Taping is a definitive rehabilitative taping technique that is designed to facilitate the body’s natural healing process while providing support and stability to muscles and joints without restricting the body’s range of motion as well as providing extended soft tissue manipulation to prolong the benefits of manual therapy administered in a clinical setting.

Kinesio® Tape targets different receptors within the somatosensory system which alleviates pain and facilitates lymphatic drainage by microscopically lifting the skin. This lift forms convolutions in the skin thus increasing interstitial space and allowing for a decrease in inflammation of the affected areas. Kinesio® Tape has been proven to have positive physiological effects on the skin, lymphatic and circulatory system, fascia, muscles, ligaments, tendons, and joints. The techniques learned can be used in conjunction with a multitude of treatments and modalities within your practice and is effective during the rehabilitative and chronic phases of an injury as well as being used for preventative measures.

Clinical concepts and Applied Kinesiology Taping for LMTs (12 Hours). Evaluation and assessment are key skills in the treatment of any clinical soft tissue condition. In order to get desired results from treatment, a full assessment of your client/patient is necessary. These assessments should include manual muscle testing, range of motion testing, and any other orthopedic tests the therapist deems necessary.

This 18 hour class is specifically designed for Massage Therapists wanting to expand their practice into a clinical approach covering biokinesthetics which includes assessing movement and stimulating mechanoreceptors to relax Golgi tendon reflexes; manual therapy with foundations in Neuromuscular Therapy techniques, Orthopedic Massage techniques, and Manual Lymphatic Drainage techniques, then applied kinesiology taping or elastic tape therapy if necessary, to prolong the benefits of soft tissue manipulation.
